by myyachtguardian123

The Sea Wolves couldn’t be more excited, with the start of the EPIC Vendee Globe around the world race about to take place. The Spirit of Amsterdam witnessed the legendary Finish of the Volvo Ocean Race live in The Hague in 2018 and we are looking forward to spending some 10 weeks along with all the sailors, cheering on the new Imoca Hero’s around the world. In this vid Sea Wolf Flo is giving some of he’s perspectives and insights into the upcoming race. SkippHoping it will add to your fun, as there is not a lot of English video content available (since it is a French lead race) we thought it might be welcome to provide some extra English commentary. So let us know in the comments what type of content you would like along the Vendee and we will do our best to regular weekend updates as the race starts and progresses.

Hi, Florian! I am getting a little bit addicted to you vendee globe movies. I missed the first ones and watched this one right know.
Since I am also very interested in art, I am curious about that painting behind you. Please, tell us about it! Thanks and keep going on! Gregor

Thought you might have mentioned the scanning cameras mounted on HB to protect against another collision catastrophe. Their effectiveness will be interesting to see. Again thanks again for all tech info nothing better than appreciating the theory behind the reality, good job!

These things are like overgrown RS700s with foils.

Still a new frontier for pioneers
From The first round-the-world yacht race (Sunday Times Golden Globe Race) in 1968, to November 2020, around 200 sailors tried their luck in a monohull and less than 100 managed to complete the course (so only one chance in two of succeeding in this type of attempt), mainly in the context of the Vendée Globe.

Only 6 sailors achieved the Westward route facing the dominant winds and currents.

Only four sailors managed to complete a round-the-world tour in a single-handed multihull without stopover and without assistance:
*Francis Joyon] (2004 then 2008) 72 days then 57 days
*Ellen MacArthur (2005) 71 days
*Thomas Coville (2016) 49 days
*Francois Gabart (2017) 42 days

Excellent video will be following. Are you sailing on Virtual Regatta?

It is 15 years since I sailed back to England from Latvia in a Catri 24 foiling trimaran. https://youtu.be/y-qsz_Ye4RU. The foils in this boat were designed to make it safer, not more dangerous. Glad to see the racing world catching up.

Hello, I enjoy your content but could you please work on the sound so that there is less of an echo? Thanks!

How cold will it get on the course?what are they sleeping on? Eating?

Personally, I don’t think solo sailing is safe. A minimum of two crew is much safer.

Hope they have live coverage like the Ocean Race.

Really would like to understand the design of each class of boats and how best to sail them.

Occitane is the newest, most innovative design and currently the fastest imoca, by a very large margin on specific conditions, unfortunately due to the covid lock down, the boat has not been tested much yet nor debugged and might run into more handicaping problems than older boats as well as the newest like Charal, Apivia, Hugo boss.
if i am wrong on that, occitane will win the vendee globe.
Occitane is a scow with an original design narrower than other boats, giant foils that can be retracted in case of rough conditions. His architect is Sam Manuard, other boats he designed have also ruled in the class 40 for many years and up to now.

A watching party of the start would be a great idea: maybe your French-speaking sailing fans can help with the pronunciation 😉

Good stuff! I would be interested in the control systems. Also, the autopilot's and navigation systems.

It must also be said that French supremacy is strongly threatened by Mr Thomson, and Ms Davies. W'll see. Thank' You very much.
