VNeID users have difficulty changing phones
VNeID application requires using an activation code sent to the old device to be able to switch to a new phone.
Tran Long (Thai Ha, Hanoi) said that after losing his phone and having to buy another device, he had trouble reinstalling the VNeID application. “I entered the correct account and password, but the software asked to enter the code sent to the old device that was logged in before. But the old phone is gone, so I have to accept it”, Mr. Long said.
Similarly, Thanh Ha (District 3, Ho Chi Minh City) just bought an iPhone 14 and used the trade-in service (changing old phones and making up more money). She has carefully backed up all data, including VNeID account. However, when logging in, the software notices that it needs to scan the QR code displayed on the old machine. “I didn’t receive this warning when I first registered. The old machine was reset as soon as it was delivered to the store, so there was no way to access VNeID”, Ms. Ha said.

Some people in similar situations think that software makes it difficult to manage information, not as easy as other social network accounts, services, and utilities. “With other software, I just need to remember my account information, password, and at most the system will send an authentication message to the phone when I change the device,” Mr. Long said.
According to technology expert Tran Dinh, using the code sent to the old device when logging in on the new device is a highly secure authentication method and is not uncommon for software to use. Financial services, e-wallets, and especially digital wallets all use this method to increase security. “However, these software all have a second option for users to authenticate with identification, face … for convenience when unable to use old devices. VNeID currently does not have this option.” Mr. Dinh analyzed.
In addition to the trouble of changing devices, many people also have the error of not being able to register an electronic identity account. For example, the application cannot scan QR codes, does not recognize faces when taking photos, reports incorrect login information …
A representative of the Ministry of Public Security said that in the near future, VNeID will be updated to a new version, fixing common errors. In particular, the Ministry will add a method for citizens to go directly to the regional police to reset the device when changing phones, or use a device with the account reset feature.
VNeID application is at version 2.0.3, requires users to install it on phones running iOS 13 or Android 5.0 or higher. On both the App Store and Play Store, the app has millions of downloads.
As of mid-October, more than 11 million eID accounts have been approved and issued, including more than 150,000 level 1 registrations. The administrator also approved more than one million health insurance information integration, more than 1 million registrations. 200,000 driving licenses. When people register for an e-ID account, they must provide an image, biometrics (card photo, fingerprint), then the center will compare with the information on the system, the match will be approved immediately. “Some people have inaccurate data or improperly authenticated photos, leading to the system not being able to approve records. In some cases, officials cannot manually review but have to look with their eyes to assess whether it is correct” , the representative said
